I first built CameraSim in 2009 to help a friend understand how his new DSLR worked.
(Pretty sure that was like 100 years ago in internet years.)
What started as a simple demo to explain aperture, shutter speed, and ISO quickly grew into something more. It became a tool that made camera settings finally make sense to people who had struggled with them before.
Since then, CameraSim has become a resource used by photography instructors and students all over the world. It has been featured in classrooms, workshops, and online courses as a way to show exposure in action instead of just describing it in words.
Photography education is often buried under jargon. CameraSim was built to make the fundamentals visual and intuitive, a way to instantly see how changing a setting affects the image.
While nothing can replace using a real camera, CameraSim bridges that gap by letting you experiment safely, at your own pace.
CameraSim has since grown beyond that original simulator. It now includes CameraSim Classroom, a photography teaching platform for schools and instructors.
The mission remains the same: to make photography accessible, engaging, and clear for anyone who wants to learn.
